Sometimes words don’t cut it. Sometimes…
Taken on the descent on Rainbow Mountain. You come for the vibrant mineral colours layered across the landscape but Pachamama, Mother Nature, had other ideas and covered the whole place in sleet. I didn’t get to see the colours but I did spot this lone rider and their horse taking a well-earned rest.
A once-in-a-hundred-year swell hit Coogee. Locals lined the cliffs with breaths held as big-wave surfers took on 20 foot waves.
As kids, our parents bought us each a baby koi for the pond.
This is one of them 20 years on.
Being a tourist in your own backyard
Off the coast of South West Rocks is a dive site called Fish Rock. You drop 30-metres down and disappear into a pitch-black cave, past wobbegongs, eagle rays and hundreds of lobsters, all sharing one very cramped space. You then squeeze up through the chimney and eventually emerge into this: the cathedral.
If you kneel in the sand and stay still enough, grey nurse sharks will swim right up to you. Almost too close for comfort before swishing away. Most people would find it terrifying. I went back the next day.
